Enlightenment Deferred
—a poem where wisdom waits and the leaves steep in silence

The lantern flickered but did not flare,
A question hung in jasmine air.
You reached for glass, not holy writ,
And found more truth than scholars admit.

Vodka, pale as unread scrolls,
Poured smooth into uncertain goals.
Then green tea syrup, soft and deep—
A flavor brewed where answers sleep.

The lemon spoke in sharp rebuke,
A dialect of ancient spook.
And absinthe, sly, in vapor curled—
A whisper from a greener world.

You drank, you paused, the moment bent—
A scholar’s thirst, a monk’s lament.
No burst of light, no veil withdrawn—
Just dusk that lingered until dawn.
