-This poem reflects on a summer power outage, when ordinary comforts vanish and the body becomes newly aware of heat, stillness, and dependence on small unseen currents.
The fan goes still without a word,
the refrigerator loses its hum,
and all at once the house can hear,
the weight of heat beyond the glass.
No lamp remains to soften rooms,
no small appliance keeps its place,
just window light and slowing air,
and summer pressing in more close.
Outside, the neighborhood falls strange,
porches quiet, screens gone dark,
as if the day had taken back,
the hidden current from its walls.
And still the body learns to wait,
to sit with warmth and lengthening dusk,
until one sudden living click,
returns the house to all it was.
